“A Better Internet, Together”

Does anyone know what the hell that means?

I will be the soul of brevity with this piece because I didn’t participate in either the first Medium Day or yesterday’s brawl as I’ve run out of the necessary gas to keep kidding myself that writing here will lead to bigger and better things. And, as in many situations, facing the truth ain’t so bad.

That said, I’m sure we’ll get a gushing, blow-by-blow of the festivities, soon. (Was there a buffet? Cocktails?)

Now, I must address what I’ve seen in the stories leading up to Medium Day. Almost without fail, they include a marketing tagline of sorts. And I know it’s a tagline because my career was that of an advertising and marketing associate creative director/copywriter and I had to pen many of these come-ons.

A better Internet, together.

Whew. That’s heavy.

According to Medium’s CEO, Tony Stubblebine:

The internet is broken and getting worse. It’s flooded with ads, spam, misinformation, disinformation, division, and hate.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a healthy way to talk to each other that inspires, informs, empowers, and brings people together.
