Storytelling is a lost art. Now, that’s not a mind-blowing declaration and I’m not sure if I just made that up or if someone else referenced it but either way, it’s true.

It certainly is here and on other so-called writers’ platforms that I’ve been a part of. And that’s because crafting a compelling story from start to finish is damned hard work. And, we don’t like things hard, do we? (Some things, anyway.) As the late, great Tina Turner growled, “ Every now and then, I think you might like to hear something from us, nice and easy.”

But, as she went on to say in her unforgettable intro to Proud Mary, “Nice and rough” was really her jam.

My point is, some writers here are taking the shit way too easy. You’re overusing AI, rehashing the same old crap that we’ve read time and time again from other so-called scribes, and hanging your hats on bullshit listicles.

Do you not understand the fine art of entertaining your readers?

My advice, for what it’s worth: Try it rough, for a change. Gird those loins, roll up your sleeves, and attempt to craft an actual story, like Richard Steele.
