VISION QUEST
A Plea to Film Editors
Blow up the damned texts!
I hesitate to write this as I expect that the ageist readers here will attribute my complaint to being an old fart.
But I don’t give a FF, so here goes: How many movies and TV shows do some of us have to struggle through because we can’t read the damned, on-screen texts?
It’s not just an age thing, guys. It’s a vision thing. And if you can’t see far, like me, you’re probably frustrated that so many films have plots where being able to read the texts between characters is key to understanding what the F is going on.
Today, I watched a horrible film, Cat Person. Do not even think of watching this piece of crap. I don’t know what the point of making it was or why someone greenlit this slog, but stupidly, I hung in until the end. That’s my OCD at work. I do that with books, too. I’m trying to break myself of this as time is too precious to waste on poop.
I was drawn to the turd because of the casting. Nicholas Braun, who was a revelation as Greg Hirsch in Succession, and the always-classy Isabella Rossellini who is a primer for aging gracefully. Unfortunately, she appeared in very few scenes. I’m guessing she probably figured out that her agent hooked her up with a crapfest and bailed, early.
