Brilliant story, Kathryn. I'm so terribly sorry you had to go through that. Because you, open-hearted that you are, painted the gunman in a somewhat sympathetic light, I feel sorry for him, but sticking a weapon in your stomach removed his right to empathy. This shit never goes away but I hope that with time, and help, you are able to deal with the trauma and get past it.
