For what it's worth, to me, you are not the "enemy." You are an angel.

My heart was in my mouth the entire time I was reading this. On the strength of this piece alone, I have to follow you.

My husband and I have shared our lives with cats for over thirty years and, for twenty-plus, have been going to the same vet. We WOULD NEVER THINK OF DISRESPECTING THEM, as they care for our babies as if they were their own. Speaking or our kitties, whatever they need, whenever, whatever the cost. That is the commitment we made.

Reading, this just cements my belief that people are selfish fucks, excuse me. Animals have it all over us.
