Happy Fourth!
Not for the six people who were just killed at yet another mass shooting
Today, at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, a suburb twenty-five miles north of downtown Chicago, another psychopath did his part to brand the US as the Home of the Mass Shooter.
The killer is still at large. According to witnesses, he’s white, between eighteen and twenty years old. An assault rifle was found at the scene. From what we’ve learned thus far, the shooter took aim at the crowd from a rooftop.
Aside from the six dead, close to thirty people were injured and taken to area hospitals, most of them shot and others injured as people ran for their lives.
I’m writing this to tell you to stay home, people. If you’re in the US, fuck the Fourth. This is not a day for celebration. It wasn’t before this latest atrocity and it certainly isn’t now.
Instead, it’s a day of mourning. Yet another one.
