I Was Feted For Writing On Medium

Heed my advice and this can happen to you, too

So here I am, minding my own business and slogging through my third mile on the treadmill in our basement.

I’m trying to pay attention to a crappy Hulu thriller while pounding the “pavement” when I get a call on my cell. I ignore it as well over half the calls I get these days are spam, either Medicare supplement bullshit, auto insurance shills, or someone who desperately wants to clean our gutters.

After working out, I check my call log and see that the most recent one is from a New York number. And the caller left a voice mail message.

“Hi, Sherry, this is Kate Munroe from CNN. I’m a reporter and I’ve been following you on Medium. I love your take on age discrimination in the workplace and would like to schedule an interview. If this sounds like something that would interest you, please return my call at your earliest convenience and ask for extension 332. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.”

WOW.

“This can’t be real,” I think. Someone is pulling my leg. I mean, I’m a gnat. Who the hell would want to interview me? Do they want to hear about the sixty-two bucks I made last month?”
