Remember the days when people were hesitant to talk about their mental and emotional challenges?
I certainly do, probably because I’m an older broad and also, someone who’s been struggling with OCD and anxiety my entire life. The OCD, especially, was, by my parents’ measure, just one of my many eccentricities.
As both my folks battled depression which again, wasn’t discussed, I firmly believe that these traits are to an extent, genetic. In fact, both a nephew and his sister, my niece are showing signs of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so there you go.
I’m meandering on about this because yesterday, I read a story by Carol Burt that really spoke to me in its brutal honesty. Here it is:
On a platform where writers are no longer encouraged to pen personal essays or share stories from the heart, I find Carol’s story to be a breath of fresh air.
