Oh, my friend, my friend. This both broke my heart and gladdened it to know that there are people like you and Michael in this brutal world. My husband and I are the same way. I wrote a story about trying to save an injured blackbird and a couple of years ago, my husband .had to dispatch a mouse on our deck that was spinning in circles. Our guess was that it had been bitten by a rabid animal. I was no help there either, by the way. No. It never gets easier.
