So Now I Wait

On “seeing something” in my left breast, and knowing nothing

Thursday, my husband and I went to Northwestern Medicine’s Geneva, IL campus so I could have my yearly mammogram along with a Dexa scan to see how my aging bones are holding up.

Since I was diagnosed with early onset breast cancer nine years ago, this yearly pilgrimage is a mind fuck. I’m sure I don’t have to explain why, especially to my women readers. I also see my oncologist every six months for manual exams, so, I’m on top of things.

Until this latest visit, I’ve shared nothing but glowing reviews for this facility. But, I don’t know if there was a full moon the night before, or some bad mojo that sullied the normally excellent care but the whole experience was a cluster fuck.

First, a technician, “M,” called me in for my bone scan which took very little time, and then it was off to the first stage of my mammogram. Because I have exceptionally dense breast tissue which puts me at a higher risk for cancer, I get to undergo a “special” mammogram!” This started last year.
