Time to “Set Up Camp” With a Hoist
Talent plus empathy make for one hell of a writer
One of my favorite Medium writers is Deborah Camp. She knows her stuff and her stories are always a pleasure to read. Whether writing about her cats’ antics, crazy titles of country tunes, or a heartfelt recounting of a dear friend’s battle with dementia, Deborah connects with her readers on a level many writers would do well to emulate.
She’s also kind AF. And did I mention that she loves cats? Deb also walks the walk in that she employs her craft for the better good, as she shares in the following story that brought me to tears while smiling through the entire read. Now, that’s a feat.
Now, many of you may laugh at this Hoist thing, but I’ll tell you something: This story should be boosted, and I’ll be the first to cheer if it does, but Deb is far too humble to bleat about it and moreover, I’m not holding my breath. Neither are the writers who are jumping ship by the day.
